Picture Quality

LG 38UC99 has an amazing picture quality thanks to the ultra wide resolution which is also the preferred resolution by most people. IPS panels tend to have the best colors but not the best response rates. But don’t get us wrong because this monitor is good for gaming because it falls under LG’s gaming category. The contrast ratio isn’t the best out there but still it produces great colors, mostly because of the IPS panel and 1.07 billion colors can’t be wrong. The brightness is good too but not the best that we have seen. We will give 5/5 points for LG 38UC99 review part of the picture quality.

LG 38UC99 also comes with some very useful features where the most important one is the free sync technology. This feature removes image tearing and provides a smooth gaming experience. Another good gaming feature is the black stabilizer that can really bring objects out of the shades. The screen can also be divided in lots of different ways and this comes in handy when you are working. LG 38UC99 also has all the essential connectivity including one type c port and it has two built-in speakers with 10W power each, which is great. Other important features are flicker safe technology and 1ms motion blur reduction. We will give 5/5 points for LG 38UC99 review part of the features.

LG 38UC99 has also a great design. The color looks good and it can adapt in any room. The stander looks good too and it is not too big or exaggerated. It has the common flexibility but nothing special worth to mention, simple and great. We will give 5/5 points for the LG 38UC99 review part of the design.

LG 38UC99 Review Price

Our review price was $1,716 which is high even for a great monitor like this. We will give 4/5 points for the LG 38UC99 review part of the price.

LG 38UC99 Good User Reviews

★★★★★ 5 out of 5 stars.
The monitor works great for my purposes. The picture is extremely clear & vibrant. I use it for Mac OS X versions 10.12 & 10.13 (Nvidia 750TI / AMD Vega 64) with a Display Port connection (Hackintosh). I also play games with Windows 10. I have also connected the monitor thru the HDMI port to my Dell Laptop. The only thing I don’t like is the Bluetooth sound connection. For some reason there is a Bluetooth symbol on the lower right corner if I use bluetooth.

★★★★★ 5 out of 5 stars.

I love the monitor. It feel like the perfect size for what I do. I am Building Designer and use a CAD program. The monitor feeds all my tools and plenty of room for all my drawings. I do have one issue, and that is that I can’t find a “C” connection that will work with my Thunderbolt outputs. The 2nd generation Thunderbolt connections are the fastest connection my computer has and if I could use the “C” output on the monitor then it would drive power to the USB connection to the monitor. But for now, I am using Thunderbolt to Monitor conection which works but does not drive the available USB on the back of the Monitor. Overall I love it.

★★★★★ 5 out of 5 stars.

Best Monitor I Have Used

I purchased this after returning an Acer gaming 34″ curved screen which had horrible back light bleed, IPS glow, and glare.

The first thing i noticed with this monitor was the sleek and minimalist design. This is a larger monitor but has a smaller footprint. Hookup was easy and straightforward. The curve of the screen is also perfect for comfortable viewing whereas the acer had less of a curve and left me wanting more.

This monitor was awesome for viewing everything from web content, video, and i should note the blacks are amazing. The color is also beyond anything i have seen. Out of the box the brightness is set too high but it was somehow tolerable however when i turned it down it struck a Perfect sweet spot.

I was extremely impressed by the fact that my monitor had NO back light bleed, or IPS glow, and very little glare.

Connected to the monitor I currently have a high end PC equipped with an GTX 1080 using the display port. I played fallout 4 and tomb raider at ultra settings and performed flawlessly no lag or any issues. Most notable was the lack of eye fatigue and eye stress experienced compared to the Acer and other ultra wide larger format screes. All in all I am extremely happy with the monitor.

For office applications, the LG38US99 is a perfect choice

I bought this to replace two monitors (27″ and 24″) arranged side-by-side on my desk.Together that combination offered 560 square inches of real estate. This monitor provides only about 500 square inches of real estate. Initially, I had my doubts but I wanted something that didn’t clutter up my desk so much.

After using the monitor for over a month, I’m totally sold. The ergonomics of a single, curved monitor, in combination with the taller screen mean that I don’t miss the extra real estate at all, and the whole setup is cleaner, less entangled with cables, and functionally superior. I can edit documents with two pages side-by-side without needing my reading glasses, while still having an Excel worksheet open beside.

In addition, the quality of the images are far superior to anything I’ve enjoyed previously (despite buying higher-end monitors); the built-in speakers are (to my casual listening ear) remarkably good (and have freed up even more space on my desk); and the design is pleasing and minimalistic (which I appreciate). All in all, the *only * complaint I have is the price. Otherwise, for my purposes, this is the first “perfect” monitor I’ve ever used.

LG 38UC99 Bad User Reviews

Major flaw – on-board bluetooth audio cannot be disabled
On-board bluetooth cannot be disabled. Therefore, anyone within range will see the LG Monitor as ‘available’ and attempt to connect, which will cause an annoying forced pop-up via the OSD prompting you to click on the menu button to decline every single time. Extremely annoying. LG Support cannot fix this problem and it’s currently awaiting a firmware update for which they have no time-frame.

Until this problem is fixed, I cannot recommend this monitor. It’s a deal breaker for me and absolutely non-compliant in an office environment, which is why the one star.

Beautiful Monitor, HORRIBLE Support from LG
I was extremely excited to replace (2) 24″ monitors with this bad boy, unfortunately, my excitement was quickly replaced with disappointment. After plugging the shiny new 38″ monitor, I noticed there’s an entire row of dead pixels. So, of course, I immediately contacted LG support. They gave me 3 options…

#1 Pay $75 for a local LG certified company to come out and look at the monitor
#2 Ship the monitor back to LG for a REFURBISHED replacement.
#3 Send the monitor to LG for repair (2-3 weeks)

If I’m spending $1600 on a brand new monitor, I expect better service than this, especially on a BRAND NEW top of the line monitor. Beware, if you have problems with your expensive, new monitor… you might be paying a local service professional to come out and fix LG’s problem.

LG 38UC99 is a great monitor overall. The picture quality is amazing and especially the colors. The response rate is not the best out there but it is not terrible either. The most important features are the free sync technology and the black stabilizer. Design is great but the price is high. We hope our LG 38UC99 review has been helpful to you.

Should I buy LG 38UC99?

If you can afford such an expensive monitor than LG 38UC99 has a great viewing experience to offer. However, we also recommend taking a look at this other monitor LG 32UD59-B.
